Rotor pumps – also known as rotary lobe pumps, three-lobe pumps, or sole pumps – feature two lobe-shaped rotors that rotate synchronously within a casing without contact. These rotors divide the chamber into small cavities, moving fluid through a cyclic process:
- Position A: Only cavity I fills with medium.
- Position B: Medium is trapped in cavity B.
- Position C: Medium is enclosed in cavity A.
- Position D: Cavities A and B connect to cavity II, releasing medium to the outlet.
This cycle enables continuous material transfer. As rotors turn, the gaps between lobes and casing fill with fluid, which is then moved to the discharge nozzle in fixed volumes. Tight tolerances between lobes and casing ensure a steady, efficient flow.
